Four of the greatest American Generals, George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Robert E. Lee and “Stonewall” Jackson, all played major roles in historic Lexington Virginia.  The two Confederate Generals, “Stonewall” Jackson and

Robert E. Lee, had homes in Lexington and were laid to rest in this historic town.

Arrive at Virginia Military Institute: VMI was founded in 1839, and is noted for the excellence of its military and academic programs.  Graduates of this institution have taken a major role in every military confrontation since the Mexican War in 1846.  Famous graduates include: Gen. George C. Marshall, Gen. George S. Patton and Adm. Richard C. Byrd.

 

Visit the George C. Marshall Museum and Library.  Located on the grounds of VMI, the George C. Marshall Museum and Library focuses on the career of this great American general.  George C. Marshall graduated from VMI in 1901, after which he went on to serve his country as Army Chief of Staff during WW11. He later became the U.S. Ambassador to China, Secretary of State, President of the American Red Cross, and Secretary of Defense.

 

Depart for Washington and Lee University:  Housed in white colonnaded buildings on a beautiful campus, Washington and Lee University began as Augusta Academy in 1749. Augusta Academy became Liberty Hall Academy in 1776, and was renamed Washington University in 1798 after being endowed by George Washington in 1796.  Gen. Robert E. Lee became President of the University after the Civil War, and remained there until his death in 1870, after which Washington University became Washington and Lee University.

 

Luncheon at Wilson Walker House. Located in the downtown historic district, the Wilson Walker House is Lexington's most distinctive restaurant, decorated with antiques and offering dishes prepared with the freshest and finest local and regional ingredients along with an assortment of American and award-winning Virginia wines.

 

Visit Virginia Horse Center:  A comprehensive facility catering to the equine community.  Serving the competition, education, marketing, travel and recreational interest for the world of horses and the people who love them, the Virginia Horse Center is dedicated to the many different aspects of horsemanship. The Center is a beautiful 400 acre site for all breeds and disciplines, where buyers the world over come to purchase these beautiful animals.

 

Arrive at Lee Chapel and Museum.  Built in 1867 under the supervision of Robert E. Lee, this National Historic Landmark is the final resting place of General Lee and his family.  They were buried beneath the Lee chapel, on what is now the Museum level. The famous statue of a resting General Lee is preserved In the Chapel.  Lee’s office is also preserved in the Museum, much as he left it for the last time on September 28th, 1870.

 

 

 

 

Trip Policies

Reservations - When making a reservation please include the full names of parties travelling, type of room desired, specifying single, double, triple or quad. Your room rate will vary in accordance with the type of room selection.  Old Dominion Tours will not be responsible for additional expenses incurred as a result of cancellation of any or all roommates.

 Cancellations, Transfers and Refunds –A full refund will be given to anyone who has a death or hospitalization of an immediate family member. If a request for cancellation, transfer or refund is received 30 days or more prior to departure, there will be no fees assessed. An exception to this rule applies when some air & cruise packages may change. If so, the policy will apply at time of booking. A cancellation notice of less than 30 days prior to departure will be credited for any monies paid that ODT can recoup from the suppliers. All theatre tickets are NON-REFUNDABLE.  Cancellation Insurance is available and advisable for tours of more than one day. Parties who fail to show up at time of departure may not claim a refund.

 Deposits - A deposit is required per person at time of booking for all show tickets, one-day tours shall be paid in full when reservations are made. Balance of overnight tours is due in full 30 or more days before departure. Subject to destinations, air & cruise packages may vary and will be subject to change.***Due to the economy ODT is taking payments on all trips.***

Tour Inclusions - All items included in the Tour Itineraries of chosen tour will be clearly stated in writing and detailed as to inclusions. Gratuities for Drivers, Tour Escorts and Local Guides are not included and shall be at the discretion of the individual passenger, relative to the services rendered. We suggest a gratuity of $2.00 per person per day for Driver & Tour Escort.

 Luggage - One piece of luggage per person, PLEASE! Carry-on luggage that can be stored overhead or under the seat is permissible but it is the responsibility of the individual. Additional pieces of luggage will be assessed a minimum of $6.00 per hotel. Exceptions will be made for cruises and tours of 15 days or more. Damage incurred while in the custody of an airline, cruise line, hotel or Motorcoach cannot be the responsibility of Old Dominion Tours. Baggage Insurance may be purchased with Travel Insurance, available at time of booking.

 Old Dominion Tours & Virginia Destinations, Inc. shall not be responsible or liable for and expressly disclaims any responsibility or reliability for any loss, cost, injury, expense or damage to person or property which results directly or indirectly from any act whether negligent or otherwise, of commission or omission, including but not limited to delays of entertainment, programs, sightseeing tours, baggage handling, insurance, etc. Old Dominion Tours & Virginia Destinations, Inc. and its associates act only as agents in endeavoring to make arrangements with various persons, firms and corporations in obtaining transportation, services and accommodations.
